Zhao Yu, born in July 1935 in Yongdeng County, Gansu Province. Graduated from Beijing Agricultural University （now China Agricultural University） in 1959. Joined China Communist Party in Dec. 1978. He is a famous national wheat breeding expert. At present, he is a researcher in YLVTC.

　　After graduation he gave up the chance of working in Beijing and was assigned to Shaanxi Agriculture Bureau. To develop new wheat breed, he abandoned good life and working condition at the Bureau and went to Shaanxi Agricultural School （now YLVTC） in the country side. Since then he spent 50 years in fieldwork to develop new wheat breeds and produced 5 wheat breeds: Wunong 132, Wunong 99, Wunong 113, Wunong 148, Wunong 986. The extension area has reached 4mil hectare and growers gained extra 3.6bil RMB. This is a magnificent contribution to national food security and farmers’ income increasing. He is regarded as a model of education teaching and technology extension.
