On Sept. 8th, 2016 the Fuping Professional Farmer and Yangling cadre higher vocational diploma education class opened in YLVTC. 53 students from Yangling grassroots village cadre and Fuping village attended the opening ceremony. Party Secretary Zhao Man made a speech and Vice President Zhang Yongliang hosted.

Zhao Man said this class is a pilot class in China. It allows professional farmers to receive standard agricultural education and to obtain a national diploma. The class would greatly professionalize modern agricultural production and operation team, transfusing young technicians and labors to country areas.

53 students are selected through theory test like new college students based on Chinese, math and English exam. In a later interview 5 interviewers would test candidates’ comprehensive knowledge on society, daily life, logics and applied courses. The class is independent from other college classes due to curriculum setting and special content of study. The talent cultivation plan is co-designed by the college, Fuping Agricultural Bureau and Yangling Government. The students will obtain a diploma after 3 years of full-time studies and complete required majors and minors.

Wu Xiaohong, Vice President of Shaanxi Agriculture Extension School, said this opening ceremony is a reform to college admission pattern that expand the original channel. The set of independent classes break the old teaching methods. YLVTC has built a higher education platform for professional farmers.

Zhang Lili from Fuping Meiyuan County is the representative of the class. Her family contracts a 15.3 hectare field to plant soybean, wheat and corn. Although they know how to plant, due to the fast changing of fertilizer, pesticides, underground nutrient adjustment, plant diseases and drug resistant of insect pests, they only gain some rough experience from fieldwork to tackle the problems and know little about why and are unable to sum up a complete set of theory. She hoped that through this chance she can acquire a more professional knowledge and advance management concept to have a professional knowledge of how to operate and manage her agricultural business, and at the same time, assisting more farmers to increase income.
